Event details

An exhibit by mixed media artist Gina Phillips“Oh My Land Is Like a Wild Goose: Paintings and Textile Installation,” will open on Feb. 28 in the University Gallery at Pittsburg State University and run through May 1.

Phillips will present a public lecture about her work at 4 p.m. the day the exhibit opens in Room 103, Porter Hall.

Her artwork often features her surrounding landscape, friends, and neighbors. She began her art career as a painter and slowly began to incorporate fabric and thread into her art. Her works, whether it is made with paint and canvas or fabric and thread, have a patchwork quality and evoke imaginative narratives.

Phillips earned her BFA from the University of Kentucky and received her MFA from Tulane University.  She grew up in Kentucky and has lived in New Orleans for more than 20 years. She has exhibited in galleries and museums such as the Jonathan Ferrara Gallery and the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, and was a selected artist for “State of the Art” at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art.

The University Gallery is open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
