This work for orator, chorus, and orchestra carries the following dedication from the composer:

“To the Memory of my brother Francis Kennard Bliss and all other Comrades killed in battle”

In addition to losing his brother, Bliss himself served in the Great War, was injured at the Battle of the Somme, and suffered years of recurring nightmares for years following the conclusion of the war.  Morning Heroes, his response to the wartime experience, draws its texts from a variety of sources, including Homer’s Illiad and the poetry of Walt Whitman.  It received its first performance in 1930.

Ticket prices are: Ticket prices are $12 (HS and under and seniors 65+) - $15. Free for students and faculty with ID and retired faculty.
